DiDLS DIDLS DIDLS! Diction, Imagery, Details, Language, Syntax. One of the most important things we've learned this year so far is how to hunt for all of these, not just their existence, but why their important. We learned (and I'm just beginning to learn) how all of these convey effect, then meaning. (With a little help from David Sedaris). Speaking of meaning, we also started learning about how to write a really good thesis, and I haven't quite figured it out yet but I'm sure that repetition is the key! The main thing I have to remember for my thesis is MEANING. What does every effect asked about it the question mean?? (And apparently there are inner meanings). One very large thing that I alone need to work on is meaning in poetry, and just reading poems in general. The compare and contrast essay on Friday was (for me) a disaster, and that arose out of not being able to figure out the poems. Oh well!
DIDLS=cause effect=it all MEANS something
I understand the trying to remember that meaning is the goal for everything. When the prompt doesn't even mention meaning but you still have to write about it seems a little unfair.
ReplyDeleteDIDLS. DIDLS is everything we have done so far, and it's soooo much of what will come! This base of literature is going to be so much help, I totally agree, they are super important.
I love all of your CAPITALS!! I agree with your weariness on writing a thesis, i hope you are right and repetition will ultimately pay off! And who could forget about DIDLS, yes it is the base of everything we have learned about so far. Good Job!
